Road Closures for This Weekend’s Olney Days Events

Per MCPD: Montgomery County Police officers and Maryland National Capital Park Police will be directing traffic and ensuring the safety of attendees and participants during the Olney Days in April 2023.

Event # 1: On Saturday, April 29, 2023, the “Ride Towards Hope” annual tradition, consisting of a 45k, 30k, 10k Family Ride, 5k Run/Walk and a children’s Bike Rodeo, will start between 7 a.m. and 8:15 a.m., at the Oakdale Church parking lot in the 3400 block of Emory Church Road and ends at 10 a.m.

During the races, the following intersections will be intermittently closed: Georgia Avenue at Emory Lane, Olney Mill Road at Route 108, Georgia Avenue at Gold Mill Road and Old Baltimore Road at Route 108.

Event # 2: On Saturday, April 29, 2023, the third annual “Party in the Park” event takes place between 3 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at the Olney Manor Park in the 16600 block of Georgia Avenue. There will be live music, food vendors, fireworks and activities and games for adults and children!

Police will be monitoring pedestrian and vehicular traffic flow at the following intersections: Georgia Avenue at Emory Road, Georgia Avenue at Emory Church Road and Olney Manor Park at Georgia Avenue.

Vehicles are not to be stopped along major routes of Georgia Avenue as well as Route 108 during the fireworks display.

Event # 3: Sunday, April 30, 2023, the “Olney Day Parade” begins at 2 p.m., northbound on Georgia Avenue at Prince Philip Drive and ends at 3:30 p.m., on Georgia Avenue and Spartan Road.

During the parade, northbound Georgia Avenue at Old Baltimore Road to Spartan Drive will be closed from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Prince Phillip Drive from Buehler Drive to Georgia Avenue will be shut down from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Officers will be diverting traffic to Georgia Avenue at Baltimore Road, Cherry Valley Drive, Queen Mary Drive and King William Drive.

Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route and expect significant delays in the Olney area.
