“Join us on the grounds of the Sandy Spring Slave Museum, in historic Sandy Spring, MD on Saturday June 19, 2021. From 12 noon until 6:00 pm, we will “Welcome Back the Community” and celebrate Juneteenth (also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Liberation Day and Emancipation Day). Juneteenth (short for June Nineteenth) is the day federal troops arrived in Galveston, TX to ensure that all enslaved people were freed. The troops arrival came two and one-half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is considered the end of slavery in the US and is the longest-running African American holiday.
The museum is now open and will schedule tours by appointment only. Please call 301.774.4066 to schedule your appointment.”
