Per Montgomery County:
For Immediate Release: Monday 24 January
This morning’s fire at a vacant home in Baltimore killed three members of the Baltimore City Fire Department, including Lt. Paul Butrim, Firefighter/Paramedic (FFPM) Kelsey Sadler, and FFPM Kenneth “Kenny” Lacayo. FFPM Lacayo was also a long-time volunteer in the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad and a graduate of Wheaton High School. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the families and friends of all the fallen and to the first responder community.
The horrific fire this morning also severely injured another firefighter, and we are hoping for a quick and full recovery for him. This deadly tragedy is a reminder of the danger our firefighters face every day on the job and the sacrifice they are willing to make for our safety. Our heavy hearts are with the City of Baltimore, the Wheaton community, and all of our firefighters and first responders throughout our State and region.
One of the three heroes our region lost today, while they were fighting a deadly fire in Baltimore, was one of @MontgomeryCoMD's own – both a volunteer member of @MCFRS and a graduate of Wheaton High School. Please read my statement. ➡️https://t.co/JoGSZpgQeu pic.twitter.com/TAAyeztB0V
