The MoCoShow High School Football Week 1 Preview and Predictions

Rockville vs Kennedy – The Rams are coming off of a solid 6-3 season. Senior DB Kejuan Braxton will be leaned on as they take on the Cavaliers who are looking to take a step up from last year’s 3-6 record. Massey prediction: Rockville by 14

Watkins Mill vs Springbrook – The Blue Devils who finished 3-6 last year will be led by Senior RB Christian Traylor and Senior WR Sammy John. They will take on Watkins Mill who will look to improve on their 0-9 record from last year. Look for Senior WR Michael Safo to make an impact. Massey prediction: Springbrook by 20

Blake vs Northwood – Blake finished 4-5 last year. New Head Coach Byron Marshall will lean on Senior WR Myles Miller & Sophomore RB Jeremiah Seaton. Northwood is still in the building phase, but will look to compete in this matchup. Massey prediction: Blake by 28

BCC vs Poolesville – BCC finished 2021 with a solid 6-3 record. Led by Senior RB Luke Mata the Barons will head to Poolesville to take on the always gritty Falcons who will lean on Senior signal caller Ashton Gaddis. Massey prediction: BCC by 4

Sherwood vs Wheaton – The Knights have a tall task to begin the season, taking on the 2021 State Semi-finalist Sherwood at home. The Warriors have solid corps of returners this year led by Seniors Anthony Manana & Asa Virga on the defensive side. Massey Prediction: Sherwood by 30

Gaithersburg vs Wootton – The Trojans are coming off of a 2-7 campaign from last year. They will rely heavily on 3 Star recruit, Junior RB Gideon Ituka. The Patriots also had a 2-7 record in 2021 and will also rely on thier RB, Senior Jude Anya. Massey prediction: Gaithersburg by 12

Richard Montgomery vs Urbana– In our 1st out of county matchup the Rockets led by Junior QB Anthony Dixon, travel north to take on the Hawks. Urbana will bring a little MoCo flavor with the addition of former Damascus HC Eric Wallich to their staff. Massey prediction: Urbana by 8

Blair vs Magruder – The Blazers are coming off of a great 7-2 season plus an historic playoff win. Senior QB & Army commit Kendall Anderson will lead Blair as they take on the Colonels who are looking to improve on their 3-6 record from last year. Massey prediction: Blair by 14

Seneca Valley vs Clarksburg – The Coyotes went 3-6 last season and will host up and coming Screamin’ Eagles. SV is looking to fly higher after a 6-3 record last year. SV returns multiple impact players including Senior OL Evan Cooke and Junior QB Elijah Frazier. Massey preditcion: Seneca Valley by 7

Churchill vs Walter Johnson – In the 1st round of the Congressional Cup the Bulldogs, coming off of an impressive 7-2 record, led by Senior WR Zeke Advit, travel to WJ. The Wildcats will try to imrove on last years 5-4 record. To do so, they will need big production from Senior LB CJ Newman & Senior RB Jalen Scott. Massey Prediction: Churchill by 1

Quince Orchard vs Whitman – The Cougars are coming off of State Championship, Undefeated season. 4 Star recruits DL Jaylen Harvey & RB Iverson Howard will be key if QO wants to repeat. The Vikings are looking to improve on a 0-9 season. Lookout for sophomore TE/DL Nate Sullivan to play a key role. Massey prediction: Quince Orchard by 36

Paint Branch vs Einstein– The Titans had solid 2021 campaign going 6-3. Junior LB Julian Whyte and company will travel to Burtonsville to take on the Panthers who return Seniors Tavon Bailey & Elrenton Andrews from last year’s outstanding 8-1 season. Massey prediction: Paint Branch by 19

Up County Game of the Week
Northwest vs Damascus – The Jags are coming off of an outstanding 8-1 season and a semi-final playoff appearence. Senior RB Antonio Berry & DL Marcus Middleton will lead a super talented group to take on the Swarmin’ Hornets. Damascus, who had a decent 6-3 season last year, will be led by Seniors LB Dillon Dunathan & DB Dominic Hess. Massey prediction: Northwest by 22
