Things to Do in Montgomery Parks August 4-7

Montgomery Parks had shared some summer programs and events happening this weekend around Montgomery Parks Thursday, August 4, to Sunday, August 7.

Dancing Update: Due to weather, Salsa in the Park is canceled. 

Come dancing with us at Salsa in the Park(opens in a new tab) at Wheaton Forest Local Park this Thursday, August 4, from 5 to 8 pm. There will be salsa lessons, live music, and food and beverage vendors onsite!

Adults and children watch and listen to a guide on the Underground Railroad Trail Guided Hike. They are outdoors in the woods.

Hiking

Learn about history at the Underground Railroad Trail Guided Hike(opens in a new tab) at Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park this Saturday, August 6, at 9:30 am. Discover techniques used by freedom seekers for navigation, eluding detection, and finding food and shelter on their perilous journeys north.

Playtime

Summer is heating up, which means it is the perfect time to play outdoors and cool down in the sprinklers! Come out to Sprinkles, Bubbles, and Rainbows(opens in a new tab) at Black Hill Visitor Center to run through the water and play with bubbles this Sunday, August 7, from 1 to 3 pm.

Animals

Come see eastern box turtles at Turtle Talk(opens in a new tab) on Saturday, August 6, from 10:30 to 11 am, or look for Flying Squirrels(opens in a new tab) this Friday, August 5, from 8:45 to 9:15 pm at Brookside Nature Center. Registration required.

Science

Want to learn more about urban heat islands? Get educational resources or volunteer for National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration’s (NOAA) Urban Heat Island Mapping(opens in a new tab) campaign this Sunday, August 7. Montgomery Parks is participating with other local organizations in the project to gather data around the county to determine urban heat islands. Stop by Acorn Urban Park at 2 pm for the final special event.
