Traffic: Woodfield Road is Closed Between Watkins Road and Rocky Road for Further Police Investigation of Friday’s Fatal Collision

Montgomery County Police have closed Woodfield Road between Watkins Road and Rocky Road on Monday morning for further police investigation of the fatal collision that occurred on Friday, April 22. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route and expect significant delays.

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit have identified the victim in the April 22 fatality as 60-year-old, Mary Sheree Wenger of Laytonsville. On April 22, 2022, at approximately 12:28 p.m., Montgomery County Police and Montgomery County Fire-Rescue, responded to Woodfield Road between Watkins Road and Deanna Drive for the report of a single vehicle collision. The initial investigation has revealed that a silver, 2006 Dodge Magnum was traveling northbound on Woodfield Road when the operator lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle struck several fence posts on the right side of the northbound travel lane before crossing over the southbound lane, leaving the road, and rolling over into a field area. During the roll over, the driver was ejected from the vehicle.

The operator was transported to an area hospital with serious injury. She ultimately succumbed to her injuries several hours later. This is an active and ongoing investigation. The collision is now being investigated by the Montgomery County Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU). Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact CRU detectives at (240) 773- 6620.
