Turncoat, A Speakeasy Lounge With Its Own Hidden Entrance, Will be Included in ‘The Heights’ Food Hall

Approximately one year ago, we let you know that Common Plate Hospitality would be opening its first food hall in Maryland with The Heights Food Hall at Wisconsin Place. The new food hall will be opening in the space formerly occupied by Anthropologie and PF Chang’s on the 5400 block of Wisconsin Ave and will include Turncoat- a speakeasy, with its own hidden entrance. According to a report by Washingtonian, Turncoat will have its own hidden entrance that won’t actually be accessible from the main food hall. “The designers are looking to incorporate Chevy Chase Prohibition-era history (apparently train cars in the neighborhood transported bootleg liquor).”

Per a 2021 press release, “The Heights’ contemporary design consolidates the bright open space with white walls, art murals, charming textiles, modern lighting, and greenscaping to create a vibrant culinary oasis. Some creative concepts to join the Heights include eight food stalls that will feature a variety of international cuisine, a full-service bar, a speakeasy and Urbano @ The Heights – a contemporary Tex-Mex concept from Common Plate Hospitality”.

They have also announced that the Heights Food Hall at Wisconsin Place will offer both indoor and outdoor patio dining and will be open seven days a week from 11am-Midnight.  Initially targeting a Spring 2022 opening, construction is ongoing and signage is now up at the food hall. Common Plate Hospitality currently owns and operates Urbano 116, Urbano @ Mosaic, Mason Social and Augie’s Mussel House and Beer Garden in Virginia. Augie’s is opening it’s first Montgomery County location soon.

More about Common Plate Hospitality: Chad Sparrow and Larry Walston have been friends for over 20 years. In 2015, the lifelong friends launched Mason Social, a contemporary American restaurant in their hometown of Alexandria. On the back of the success of Mason Social they decided to expand the restaurant group in 2018 with Mexican concept Urbano 116 and Augie’s Mussel House and Beer Garden. Their exciting restaurants blend both innovative architectural design, creative culinary offerings and craft bar programs to create a full experience for their guests.
