Gaithersburg, MD – Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 6th District Station have arrested and charged two motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol and striking Montgomery County Police patrol cars over the Memorial Day weekend. On Saturday, May 28, 2022, at approximately 1:54 a.m., two officers were on a traffic stop in the area of Montgomery Village Ave. and Brassie Pl. when the driver of a gray Nissan Altima sideswiped both of their unoccupied police vehicles.
On Saturday, May 28, 2022, at approximately 9:31 p.m., an officer was at the scene of a motorcycle collision in the area of Goshen Rd. and Wightman Rd. when the driver of a Nissan Murano struck his unoccupied patrol car. Neither of the drivers or police officers were harmed during the collisions.
Officers made contact with the drivers and observed signs of impairment. The impaired drivers consented to perform the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which were not completed to the officers’ satisfaction. The drivers were arrested and transported to the MCPD 6th District Station, where they were charged with driving under the influence of alcohol related charges.
In an effort to avoid fatalities and injuries during this summer season, Montgomery County Police urges drivers to not consume alcoholic beverages before operating a motor vehicle. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 10,000 people die in drunk or impaired driving collisions every year in the United States. If you plan to drink, please make a plan ahead of time for a sober ride home.
