Undergraduate Expo at The Universities at Shady Grove

Fun Fact: The Universities at Shady Grove (USG) is the only campus where students can earn a bachelor’s or graduate degree from an accredited public university without leaving Montgomery County.

If you’ve ever shopped at Traville Village, Travilah Square, or Fallsgrove Village Center in Rockville, you’ve been within walking distance of a campus with over 60 undergrad and grad degree programs but like me, probably had no idea it even existed.

Basically how it works is that students find the university offering their chosen major at USG and apply directly there. On the application, they can choose Shady Grove as their preferred campus location, but they still get the same professors, take the same classes, and earn the same diploma as they would if they went to that school’s main campus.

In addition to being able to remain in MoCo, students at USG get smaller class sizes, increased scholarship opportunities, and more personalized student services and student life. But students can also still visit their main university and join clubs or attend sporting events there, too. So pretty much a win-win!

Fun Fact 2: Since all of the degrees offered on the USG campus have ties to the needs of the workforce in MoCo, students also have a great chance of being able to stay local after graduation, too.

If you want to learn more, USG is holding a free event for prospective undergraduate students on Saturday, April 6th, from 9am-12pm: the Undergraduate Expo.

At the Expo, high school and prospective transfer students can meet with reps from all of the undergrad majors, take a campus tour, get application essay writing tips, learn about scholarships, and more.

A full schedule of events and link to register is at www.shadygrove.umd.edu/discoverusg.
