Unemployment Claims in MoCo Based on Zip Code

Unemployment Claims in MoCo Based on Zip Code

Earlier today Montgomery County Councilmember Evan Glass released a map showing unemployment claims in the county by zip code.

“Today we celebrate Labor Day and honor the social and economic achievements of our workforce. But we must also recognize that many in our community are not working as a result of the coronavirus pandemic” wrote Glass in his social media post.

The map shows the highest number of claims (> 2,855) in parts of areas like Germantown, Gaithersburg, Rockville, Wheaton, and Silver Spring.

The second map shows the population density of the county.

  1. Since the map doesn’t show per capita rates then it’s pretty useless. May as well be a population density map.
