Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a house fire on the 8700blk of Lochaven Dr. near Sabbath Ct, off of Warfield Rd. in Gaithersburg on Thursday, April 14 at 12:15pm. First arriving units reported heavy fire in the garage and the bulk of fire was knocked-down by 1pm.
According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the homeowner was doing repair work and cut a water pipe within the garage walls. Combustibles were too close to the heat source (cut pipe), which caused the fire.
Damages are estimated to be between $99K-150K.
The home was located in a non-hydrant area and around 85 firefighters responded to the scene.
Due to the activity, Goshen Rd. was temporarily closed at Warfield Rd.
