Washington is One Win Away From the Playoffs
The Washington Football Team is one win away from making the playoffs. Washington controls its own destiny and needs just one win in the next two games against the Panthers or Eagles.
Since the New York Giants lost to the Baltimore Ravens, a victory in today’s game against head coach Ron Rivera’s former team, the Carolina Panthers, would give Washington the NFC East crown.
Washington currently sits atop the NFC East with a 6-8 record, ahead of the 5-9 Cowboys and 4-9-1 Eagles who play each today. Washington is now 1.5 games ahead of the 5-10 Giants.
Since Washington has defeated the Cowboys twice this year, they would hold the tiebreaker if the teams ended with an identical record, so a win would also eliminate the Cowboys from contention.
The Eagles would be eliminated with a Washington win as well since the best record they can end up with is 6-9-1.
If Washington loses and the Eagles win today, next week’s game against the teams would be for the Division.
Bullis graduate Dwayne Haskins is starting at quarterback for the second straight week for Alex Smith, who is out with a calf injury.
Haskins was fined earlier this week due to photos that have circulated throughout social media of the quarterback massless at a party on Sunday night.
Haskins has tweeted an apology, stating he spoke with coach Ron Rivera on Monday and “took full responsibility for putting the team at risk. It was irresponsible and immature and I accept responsibility for my action.” He also apologized to his teammates for “creating a distraction during our playoff push.”
