Wind Advisory in Effect Monday, January 17

by MCS Staff

A wind advisory is in effect for MoCo from 8am Monday, January 17th until 8pm Monday night.

Rain will continue overnight, washing away most of the snow/ice that accumulated earlier today. The high winds will also help with drying things off, but could lead to potential power outages.

A brief period of light snow is possible tomorrow morning.

Per the National Weather Service:

* WHAT…West winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.

* WHERE…Portions of The District of Columbia, central, north central, northeast, northern and southern Maryland, northern, northwest and western Virginia and eastern and panhandle West Virginia.

* WHEN…From 8 AM to 8 PM EST Monday.

* IMPACTS…Damaging winds will likely blow down scattered trees and power lines. Scattered power outages are possible. Loose outdoor objects may be blown away or damaged.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.
