Woodward High School’s Return

by MCS Staff
On March 14th, MCPS released their Analysis of Potential Holding Centers for Northwood High School.

In this proposed solution Northwood High School students would relocate to Woodward High School (where Tilden Middle School is currently located on Old Georgetown Rd.) for the 2023-2024 school year. Northwood High School is 6.9 miles away from Woodward High School.

Northwood students would return to Northwood in September 2025 as final site work activities continue through summer 2026.

Woodward High School would then re-open in September 2025 as a comprehensive high school. It would provide relief to Walter Johnson High School and other High schools from the Downcounty Consortium (DCC), which includes Albert Einstein High School, John F. Kennedy High School, Montgomery Blair High School, Wheaton High School and Northwood High School.

Enrollment at Walter Johnson is expected to jump from 2,728 in 2020-2021 to over 3,000 students by the 2024-2025 school year. Due to the increased enrollment, Walter Johnson could receive between 25 and 40 relocatable classrooms.
