Per MCPD: A 19-year-old from Damascus has been arrested and charged with murder, in connection with a Father’s Day homicide. Khamani Imes was arrested on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, for allegedly giving a gun to Isaiah Brown-Hawkins that was used in the homicide of 33-year-old James Joel Austin on Sunday, June 18.  The 16-year-old allegedly shot Austin and then drove away in the victim’s Honda that was located in Washington, DC. Brown-Hawkins was not with the vehicle and has not been found.

Imes was taken into custody at his Bethesda Church Road home where Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes detectives, with the assistance of the MCPD SWAT Unit, executed a search warrant. A firearm was recovered during a search of the residence.  Imes was placed under arrest for underage possession of a firearm and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was also charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy. He is being held without bond.


The Special Victims Investigations Division is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 17-year-old. Brianna Powers was last seen on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at approximately 2 p.m., in the 13600 of Dover Cliff Place in Germantown. Powers is 5’3″ with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing black shorts and a black hooded sweatshirt.

The Montgomery County Agricultural Fair has revised its safety/security measures for this year’s event, which takes place August 11th-19th. Per the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair: The Montgomery County Agricultural Fairgrounds is private property and we do not recognize any state or federal issued Concealed or Open Carry Firearm Permit. The Fair is a Family Friendly event that provides agricultural education and entertainment to children of all ages. Carrying firearms, weapons, and inappropriate behavior are prohibited.

Patrons entering the Fairgrounds will pass through metal detectors at each of our General Admission entry gates. These units will be adjusted to detect prohibited weapons and allow timely passage without the need to empty backpacks or pockets. Keys, cell phones, coins and other common items are permissible and will not be detected. Please leave hard, protective sunglass cases home as the metal in these cases will trigger the alarm. Accommodations will be in place at each gate to permit passage of strollers, child carriers, electric mobility chairs and similar devices.


According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, “After a bench trial today in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, the honorable Bibi Berry found defendant, Davinder Singh, 47, of Gaithersburg, guilty of Homicide by Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol, and multiple related charges. Singh faces up to ten years in prison and $14,000 in fines. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for October 20th, 2023, at 1:30 p.m.

This stems from the Election Day collision on Tuesday, November 8th, 2022, that occurred on School Drive in Gaithersburg which caused the deaths of 65-year-old Miguel Antonio Ortiz and 70-year-old Ana Margarita Ortiz.  The married couple from Gaithersburg were crossing the street to vote at a school polling place. Assistant State’s Attorney Bryan Roslund is handling prosecution of this case.


Per Montgomery County: Neighborhoods throughout Montgomery County, including many in the cities of Gaithersburg and Rockville, will join in the celebration of National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 1. Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and Police Chief Marcus Jones will be among those joining police and fire department representatives and local leaders stopping by events that will include block parties, community cookouts and activities for all ages.

Neighborhood events will start at various times. Most start around 5 or 6 p.m., although some enthusiastic communities will get started as early as 3 p.m. Residents should check with their neighborhood or civic associations for details on events that may be happening in their communities.


Per MCPD : Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Saturday, July 29, 2023. At approximately 5:49 a.m., 1st District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area of Veirs Mill Road and Twinbrook Parkway for the report of a single vehicle collision.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a black 2012 Honda Civic Hatchback was traveling eastbound on Veirs Mill Road when, for reasons unknown it left the roadway and collided with a guardrail.


Montgomery County Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred this morning, Saturday, July 29, 2023. According to MCPD, “At approximately 5:49 a.m., 1st District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area of Veirs Mill Road and Twinbrook Parkway for the report of a single vehicle traffic collision.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a black Honda Civic was traveling eastbound on Veirs Mill Road when, for reasons unknown it left the roadway and collided with a guardrail. The adult male driver was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. Two passengers were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. 


According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, “Today, in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, the Honorable Margaret Schweitzer sentenced defendant, Jaime Havier Lee, 43, of an unconfirmed address, to 40 years in prison suspend all but 28 years to serve and five years of supervised probation upon release.


Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 2nd District Investigative Section are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Joseph Emmanuel Calliste, a missing 74-year-old. Calliste was last seen on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at 4:05 p.m., in the 8600 block of Old Georgetown Road.  He is 5-feet, 6-inches tall, 160 Ibs.,  and has long sideburns and a mustache. Calliste was last seen wearing a black hat, black shirt, black cloth slippers and unknown pants.

Per MCPD: 4th District officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police have arrested and charged a juvenile male as an adult with theft related charges and illegal possession of a privately manufactured firearm, also known as a “ghost gun.”

On Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at approximately 12:57 p.m., officers responded to the Dick’s Sporting Goods store in the 11100 block of Veirs Mill Road in Wheaton for the report of a shoplifting.  When officers arrived at the location, they observed the suspects leaving the store with the stolen merchandise. Officers followed the suspects who ran to the Safeway store in the 11200 block of Georgia Ave. Officers entered the Safeway and observed the suspects in possession of the stolen items from the previous store.
