On Friday, August 18, 2023, officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police and allied agencies conducted a sobriety checkpoint on northbound Frederick Road at Game Preserve Road in Gaithersburg. On Tuesday, MCPD announced that during the checkpoint, officers stopped approximately 565 vehicles and arrested 4 people for driving while impaired.

Last month, recreational marijuana use became legal in the state of Maryland and Montgomery County Police Chief Marcus Jones issued the following reminder before the July 4th weekend, “We implore drivers to think of cannabis the same way they think of alcohol. Do not get behind the wheel of a car if you are impaired. Our officers will pull over and arrest anyone they suspect of driving while impaired. Alcohol, marijuana and other drugs can impair the ability to drive because they slow coordination, judgment, and reaction times. Our priority is keeping the roads safe for everyone.”


Montgomery County Police has released an update on 15-year-old Sophia Roach, who was missing since July 11. Sophia’s mother, Mayyasa Roach, previously stated that she believed her daughter “was kind of groomed and lured online by somebody, and we’ve got evidence of that from social media.” Statement below, per police:

“Sophia Roach of Bethesda, was located early this afternoon in Baltimore City. She has been reunited with her family in Montgomery County.


Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Homicide Section are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a suspect wanted for a July murder.

20-year-old Lawrence Marcellus Marshall, IV is wanted in connection with the shooting death of 40-year-old Cedric Warner.


Per MCPD: 19-year-old Oliver Perez-Fierro, of Montgomery Village, 19-year-old Osman Maldonado, of Gaithersburg, and a 16-year-old, from Gaithersburg, have been arrested and charged with multiple firearm related charges.

On Wednesday, August 15, 2023, at approximately 7 p.m., officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 6th District Decentralized Community Action Team conducted a traffic stop on a Black Honda Accord in the area of Montgomery Village Ave. and Arrowhead Rd., for a traffic violation.


On Tuesday, Montgomery County Police responded to the Bullis School (10601 Falls Rd) in Potomac for the report of a bomb threat. The school was evacuated and after several hours it was determined that the threat was not valid. MCPD tweeted that the school had been turned back over to Bullis administration and that it is believed this incident is related to a “swatting call” that occurred August 18 at Montgomery Mall (7101 Democracy Blvd) in Bethesda. 

Montgomery County Police tweeted the following at 12pm on Tuesday, August 22: “MCPD is at Bullis School for a reported bomb threat. School is being evacuated as a precaution. Currently investigating the validity of the report. More information will be released as it becomes available.” We will post an update when additional information is available.


The Special Victims Division is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Xavier Beltran, a missing 15-year-old.  Beltran was last seen on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at approximately 12 p.m., in the 200 block of Poplar Spring Road in Rockville. He is 5’6″, 120 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes.

The Special Victims Division is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Hagan Rousseau, a missing 16-year-old. Rousseau was last seen on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at approximately 9:30 p.m., at the Dunkin Donuts in the 11000 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring. He is 5’7″, 145 lbs., with brown hair, brown eyes, and was last seen wearing blue jeans and a black shirt.

Montgomery County Police are continuing to investigate a “series of inappropriate touching” that occurred this spring on the Bethesda Trolley Trail. Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 2nd District Patrol Investigations Unit are investigating a series of inappropriate touching committed by a suspect who groped women in the adjacent neighborhood along the Trolley Trail located between Edson Lane and Tuckerman Lane in Bethesda. Detectives have released video of the male suspect and are urging anyone who may be a victim of an inappropriate touching by this suspect to come forward.

The investigation by detectives has revealed that on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a female victim was walking on Nicholson Lane near the Kennedy Shriver Aquatic Center when she was approached by the suspect who was riding an electric scooter. The suspect then knocked her to the ground and groped her before she was able to escape and call police.


UPDATE: An update provided on Tuesday night by Alert Montgomery states that all lanes have reopened in both directions on Connecticut Ave (MD-185) between Chevy Chase Lake Dr. and Dunlop St.

Connecticut Ave. is closed in both directions between Chevy Chase Lake Dr. & Dunlop St. in Chevy Chase as the result of downed trees and wires, according to a tweet from Montgomery County Police. The Special Victims Investigations Division is asking for the public’s assistance in locating, Jozlynn Sanderson, a missing 16-year-old from Burtonsville. Sanderson was last seen on Saturday, August 21, 2023 at approximately 3:30 p.m., in the area of Scarlet Sage Court in Burtonsville/Silver Spring. She is 5’2″, 130 lbs., with black hair styled in two pony tails, brown eyes and was last seen wearing a black ribbed turtleneck sweatshirt, black Nike shorts, and white Air Force 1 sneakers with white socks.
