The winner told Lottery officials that a friend of his, who is an avid Racetrax player, recently won a big prize playing the simulated horseracing game. “Racetrax was a little bit on my mind after talking to my friend. I guess that’s why I bought the ticket. I made sure it was a Superfecta bet, just like his was.” The lucky plumber reports that his life has been very busy lately, professionally and personally, so it took a few weeks to cash in his $41,385 winning quick-pick ticket from the July 25 race. “It was such a good feeling knowing that I had this coming. I am going to share my good luck with my family.”

The Lottery terminal at Corner Market & Pharmacy produced the big winner, randomly selecting horses 6, 4, 11 and 7. The market’s owner receives a $413.85 bonus from the Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1% of the prize.” Featured photo courtesy of Google Maps.

Per the Maryland Lottery: The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency helped to generate $1.589 billion in contributions to the state during Fiscal Year 2023 from Lottery ticket sales, the state’s six casinos, sports wagering and daily fantasy sports. In FY2023 (July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023), the combined contribution to the state included $848.1 million from casinos; $714.3 million from the Lottery; $25.3 million from sports wagering; and an additional $1.2 million from daily fantasy sports. Maryland Lottery and Gaming is the state’s fourth-largest source of revenue after income, sales and corporate taxes.

But as we adapt to new responsibilities, we’re always mindful of that core mission, and we’re proud to do our part.”

The state had 26 third-tier winners of at least $10,000 during this jackpot run that started on April 21. There have been over 1 million winning tickets sold in Maryland during that time. More than $56.5 million in sales occurred during the roll, and based on approximately 25% of sales being returned to the state, the profit to the Maryland General Fund from those sales was about $14.5 million. The last Maryland jackpot win came in March 2014, when Maryland and Florida players split a $414 million jackpot. That winning ticket was sold at Lady’s Liquors in La Plata. Mega Millions tickets are sold in 47 states and jurisdictions. Odds of winning a $1 million prize are 1 in 12 million with overall odds of winning 1 in 24.” Featured image courtesy of Google Maps.
