85% Of Montgomery County’s Total Population is Fully Vaccinated, Per the CDC

893,213 people in Montgomery County are now fully vaccinated, which is 85% of the total population, according to CDC data (1,050,929 residents have received at least one dose).

The 85% metric was initially going to be used to end the indoor mask requirement in Montgomery County, but the Montgomery County Council, acting as the Board of Health, met on the morning of January 4th and voted to terminate the existing Board of Health regulation that was scheduled to end the indoor mask requirement when Montgomery County reached an 85% vaccination rate.

Montgomery County Council Delays Vote on Vaccine Mandate for Bars, Restaurants, Gyms, and Other Businesses

The Montgomery County Council is now tentatively scheduled to vote next week on the proposed “vaccine passport” for businesses.

At today’s meeting, the Council held a public hearing and discussion on the resolution that would require restaurants, bars, fitness centers and other establishments to require customers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 before entering indoor areas, as proposed by County Executive Elrich.

Additional MCPS Schools to go Virtual This Thursday

During this morning’s County Council meeting, Interim Superintendent Dr. Monifa McKnight and Board of Education Vice President Brenda Wolfe gave an update on MCPS’ COVID-19 response.

McKnight said that an announcement will be coming later today regarding more schools going virtual beginning this Thursday, January 20th. The schools were not listed during the meeting.
