The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) and Manna Food Center will host the annual Ride On Food Drive from May 25 to May 31, allowing riders to donate non-perishable food items on Ride On buses in exchange for free fare, with all donations supporting local residents facing food insecurity.
The African American Health Program will host a free, family-friendly Community Day event in Germantown focused on health and wellness for all Montgomery County residents, featuring screenings, workshops, youth activities, and mental health resources, with a theme of empowering individuals to take control of their health.
The winners have been announced for the Montgomery County Commission for Women’s eighth annual Girl Power Contest, which celebrates Women’s History Month. Top entries in four age categories will be honored at a June 12 event and recognized online for their creative responses on how media can inspire and empower girls and women.
The Montgomery County Community Action Board celebrated the graduation of 27 residents from its Community Advocacy Institute (CAI) on May 20, the largest class in the program’s nine-year history. The Montgomery County Council will meet on Thursday, May 22 to recognize Lupus Awareness Month and is scheduled to take final votes on the County’s $7.6 billion FY26 Operating Budget, $6 billion FY25-30 Capital Improvements Program, and introduce legislation for new capital projects including the Clarksburg Library and an organics processing facility.

Through grant programs and collaboration with community partners, the initiative supports a more sustainable and resilient food system while addressing rising food insecurity and environmental goals.
