Montgomery County Council committees will review two bills on March 27 aimed at expanding tax relief and encouraging housing development. Bill 3-25 proposes increasing income and net worth eligibility for the County’s supplement to the Homeowners’ Tax Credit, while Expedited Bill 2-25 would offer tax incentives for converting vacant commercial properties into residential units with affordable housing requirements. Montgomery County’s 2025 rent stabilization rent increase allowance will be 5.7%, effective July 1, which is lower than the 2024 allowance of 6%. The Rent Stabilization law, which applies to most rental units built in 2002 or earlier, adjusts rent increases annually based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) and also regulates certain fees, with the 2025 Voluntary Rent Guideline set at 3.3%.

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is continuing its Sweep the Salt pilot program to remove excess road salt from streets near sensitive watershed areas, helping to prevent water contamination. MCDOT reported that the program collected nearly 50 tons of salt and debris following winter storms, and based on initial results, plans to continue the initiative next year.
