Alicia Deeny is the First Latina High School Principal in MCPS

Established in 1892, Richard Montgomery High School (RM) is the oldest public high school in Montgomery County. For the first time ever RM appointed a female principal, and she is also MCPS first Latina High School Principal in History.


The Takoma Park Volunteer Fire Department has announced that their new engine will soon be in service. The new Engine still needs equipment mounting and crew training prior to assuming duty as the new Paramedic Engine 702.

The new Engine is a 2021 Pierce Enforcer, 10 years younger than the current 2011 Engine 702. Both were manufactured by Pierce Manufacturing in Appleton, Wisconsin.


Mike Tyson’s 18,244-square-foot former residence on Persimmon Tree Road at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda has sold for $4.57M, according to CBS Baltimore. Tyson purchased the home in 1995 with ex-wife Monica Turner for $2 million. Turner kept the property after their 2003 divorce.

The home sits on 2.4 acres and has seven bedrooms, eleven bathrooms, and a basketball court. The home was originally listed for $8.5M in May, 2020.


Family of Man Shot By Police in Front of Gaithersburg McDonald’s Raise Questions About Montgomery County Police’s Actions

The family of Ryan LeRoux, who was shot and killed by police Friday evening in front of the McDonald’s located at 18273 Flower Hill Way in Gaithersburg, have seen the bodycam footage from the incident and are questioning why it had to end the way that it did.


The Montgomery County Transfer Station, at 16101 Frederick Road in Derwood, has stopped accepting roofing materials.

The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection posted a listing of alternative disposal sites, including Clarksburg-based C & D Recovery LLC. Other sites are located in Prince George’s County, DC, and Northern Virginia.


NIST to Send Scientists and Engineers to Surfside, FL Collapse Site

The National Institute or Standards and Technology, headquartered in Gaithersburg, is sending a team of six scientists and engineers to the site of Thursday’s partial building collapse at Champlain Towers South “to collect firsthand information,” to determine if an investigation will be conducted, according to Local 10 News in Florida.


Former Damascus Football Player Bikes Across the Country Raising Money for ALS

On Saturday, June 26th Wil Armstrong, a 2016 Damascus High School graduate, commenced his cross-country bike ride “Against the Wind” from Rehoboth Beach, DE. He is expected to finish 2.5 months later in Seattle, Washington. Throughout this journey, Wil is updating his daily blog with his progress, experiences, and updates on his banana consumption count. During his cross-country journey, he is crowdfunding for the ALS Association after seeing his mentor and former basketball coach, Rodney Lapp, go through it.
