Here’s a list of current scheduled construction and lane closures in Montgomery County that could affect your commute.
In early May, Montgomery County Department of Transportation contractors will close the Mill Run Drive Pedestrian Tunnel under Shady Grove Road for approximately two weeks.
During this closure, contractors will repair and repaint the ceiling, walls, and railings in the tunnel. Crews will also complete lighting repairs. The contractor for this project is Burtonsville-based Colossal Contractors Inc.

Ride On Resuming Front Boarding, Fare Collection in April
Beginning Monday, April 5, 2021, front door boarding and fare collection will resume on Montgomery County’s Ride On, Ride On extRa, and Flash buses. These routines had been suspended due to COVID. With the return of front boarding, the rear doors on Ride On buses will return to their pre-COVID exit only layout.

Around 11AM Monday morning, a Maryland State Highway Administration Contractor was conducting a mobile sweeping operation on Northbound I-270 near West Diamond Avenue (MD-117) in Gaithersburg. As the sweeping convoy was headed northbound, a passing SUV crashed into one of the Contractor’s trucks.

Proposed Grosvenor Metro Closure Met with Strong Opposition
As a result of a sharp decline of Metrorail ridership over the past 11 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, unless they receive more federal funding, Metro will need to make service cuts, including 22 station closures. Metro is dealing with a budget deficit of about $210 million, with rail ridership down 90% due to the pandemic.
