Beyond MoCo: Carroll, Frederick, and Montgomery Counties Respond to Tanker Crash on I-70

Units are currently on scene of a (fuel) tanker truck crash involving a large fire on I-70 in Mount Airy near the Carroll and Frederick County border.

Units were dispatched shortly after 3PM Tuesday. Montgomery County units on scene include Damascus Volunteer Fire Department Tanker 713 and Laytonsville VFD Chief 717. Carroll, Frederick, and Howard Counties also have units on scene.

Firefighters are using a large amount of foam and water to extinguish the fire. As the Interstate has no hydrants, firefighters have established a relay of tankers to bring water and foam to the scene.

Information about injuries could not be immediately confirmed. Maryland State Police Frederick Barrack and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division Troopers are on scene.
