Health

Per Montgomery County: Montgomery County health officials, in partnership with the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland-College Park (UMD), recently launched wastewater surveillance to detect COVID-19 circulating in the community. Wastewater surveillance provides an accurate way to detect illness-causing viruses and bacteria, such as SARS-CoV-2. Water samples will be collected bi-weekly at five sites in the County and sent to UMD for analysis. Data and results will be posted on the County’s COVID-19 website and the information will be updated weekly.

“Wastewater surveillance will be a game changer for our efforts to better predict outbreaks and prevent them from happening,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “The partnership between our Department of Health and Human Services, the Maryland Department of Health, the University of Maryland and the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission is an important tool to help us protect the health of our residents. With winter around the corner, we want to be prepared if there is another surge in COVID-19 cases and this surveillance system helps us do that.”

However, the damage caused by water will eventually impact the life of the vehicle. OCP recently added to its staff automotive specialist Dave Elswick. Elswick, an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE)-certified investigator with 17 years of automotive technician experience. The ASE certification covers 28 areas of expertise and three master designations. He is available to help residents who think they might be buying, or have bought, a vehicle that was water damaged.

“We owe an incredible debt to those who have worn the flag of our nation on their arm, and who put their lives on the line to protect the rights and freedoms that we hold so dear,” said Governor Hogan. “Our veterans serve as a reminder every single day of the immeasurable cost of war, and of the immense price of freedom. Operation Green Light brings us together across the state to show our gratitude to our veterans, and just as importantly, raise awareness for the resources available to them and their families.”

Illumination of Landmarks Across The State. Through Operation Green Light—which is spearheaded by the National Association of Counties (NACo)—governments, businesses, and residents are encouraged to participate by simply changing one exterior light bulb to a green bulb.
