Rockville’s Mayorga Organics Donates Over $145K to Producer Communities

If you’re unfamiliar with Mayorga Organics, they are a Rockville-based company that offers organic coffee and various food items like seeds, grains, and beans. Their purpose is to eliminate systemic poverty in Latin America through responsible trade of artisanal organic foods.

When hurricanes impacted Mayorga producer communities in Honduras, Nicaragua, and Guatemala, Mayorga wanted to aid in relief efforts and decided to donate all online revenue from November 7th to December 31st of 2020.

Mayorga was able to raise over $145,000 to donate in that time.

Founder Martin Mayorga was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala. After a devastating earthquake hit the capital city, the Mayorga family moved to Nicaragua, where Martin’s father was from. They lived there until the revolution created a dangerous situation for the family. They then moved to Costa Rica for one year, then moving to Peru, where Martin’s mother is from. Eventually, the family would arrive in Miami, FL and the Mayorga family has been in the United States ever since.

The company started roasting coffee in Rockville in 1997 in order to provide market opportunities for their farmers. After two expansions; a move, and a fire, they built their state-of-the-art facility on E Gude Drive in 2014.
