Beyond Moco: Ledo Restaurant in College Park to Reopen This Spring

Ledo Pizza is credited as one of the originators of Maryland style pizza. This past November the owners of Ledo Restaurant in College Park announced they were closing after 65 years.

While they did serve the trademark square pizza that the name Ledo is famous for, the restaurant was not connected with the Ledo Pizza chain you find throughout Montgomery County. They had a completely different menu that even featured round pizzas.

The Original Ledo Restaurant opened in Adelphi, MD in 1955. In 2010, the restaurant moved to 4509 Knox Rd in College Park, bringing along the original pizza ovens with them. A split between the original owners in 1989 left one side with the original restaurant, and one side with the franchises.

The Original Ledo Restaurant was sold to a local restaurant group that will be reopening the location as a Ledo Pizza franchise.  Ledo Pizza posted the following picture on their Facebook page this week:

The chain now has over 100 restaurants from Maryland down to Florida.
