Confirmed Covid Cases in MoCo and Maryland Throughout Restrictions and Reopening Phases

As the number of daily new Covid cases waxes and wanes, county and state officials have imposed and relaxed public health orders.

Back in March, Governor Hogan declared Maryland’s state of emergency, which remains in effect today, soon followed by a stay-at-home order. Non-essential businesses and restaurants closed their doors, and gatherings were restricted throughout the state.

After confirmed cases plateaued and began to decrease in July, Hogan started Maryland’s reopening. Montgomery County entered reopening soon after.

Confirmed cases remained steady into the fall, and state and local officials continued to relax restrictions.

Case counts started to rise again in late October. Within a few weeks Montgomery County began to reimpose restrictions on indoor dining and large gatherings; Maryland quickly followed suit statewide.

As doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines make their way to healthcare workers, nursing home patients, teachers, and more, Hogan is pushing schools to open in-person instruction by March. MCPS is one of the school systems in the state that prohibits in-person instruction.
