Damascus Native Kyle Sefcik Announces Candidacy for Maryland Governor

Kyle Sefcik, MoCo native and owner of MMA & Sport gym in Damascus, launched his gubernatorial campaign on Sunday with a video advertisement posted on social media.
As a party-unaffiliated candidate, Sefcik claimed that he’s running for governor “not to work for Democrats or Republicans, but to work for you.”
“I’m running as unaffiliated because I believe that both sides are playing against each other rather than finding ways to work together,” Sefcik told us. “What Maryland needs now is not someone who just wants to represent one party, but someone who will truly fight for everyone.”
In the campaign video, Sefcik claimed that Maryland’s government continuously “oversteps their authority,” and stated that he wants to fight back against state control. In his announcement video, he also vows to not allow any bill that would raise taxes on Marylanders to pass.
Sefcik had started several businesses and nonprofits in Montgomery County. He is the founder of the nonprofit KNK Foundation, which hosts events such as Girl Power, SoundSHAPE, Oktoberfest, Special Needs Dances, and more.
Girl Power brings over 5000 women from across Montgomery County to each event, while supporting over 300 women-owned and operated businesses.
Sefcik is also a member of the Program Advisory Committee for Montgomery County Public Schools, in which he had a lead role in the launch of a successful online “Shark Tank” business-pitching event for high school students to compete in.
In 2019, Sefcik teamed up with the Montgomery County Council and community leaders in Up-County to bring Oktoberfest back to Germantown.
