A Walk to Remember Event Scheduled for September 14 at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg to Discuss History of the Three Known Lynchings in Montgomery County
The Montgomery County Lynching Memorial Project and the Gaithersburg Community Museum will host “A Walk of Remembrance: Facing Hard History Together” at 6:30pm on September 14 at Bohrer Park. This event is free and registration is required.
From the City of Gaithersburg:
“Montgomery County was the site of three known lynchings. At 6:30 p.m. in the Park Pavilion at Bohrer Park, Alexa Fraser & Lesley Younge of the Montgomery County Lynching Memorial Project will discuss the work the Project is doing to educate & engage the community about the history & legacy of lynching & racial terrorism in Montgomery County. Participants will also learn what steps the City of Gaithersburg is taking regarding equity & racial justice. Following the talk there will be a contemplative Memorial Walk through the grounds of Bohrer Park.
Inside the Activity Center, guests will be on their own to view This is Gaithersburg: Art as Civic Dialogue, an exhibit featuring artwork that reflects important conversations about the vibrant & diverse people, places & ideas that are part of the rich cultural fabric of the City.”
