A Germantown resident is $100,000 richer after purchasing a winning scratch-off lottery ticket at the Shell gas station at 501 Quince Orchard Rd in Gaithersburg. Additional details below courtesy of the Maryland Lottery:
“A Montgomery County man who rarely plays Lottery games just made his luckiest random pick ever. A visit to a nearby Lottery retailer earned him a $100,000 top prize on a Bingo X10 6thEdition scratch-off.

The 47-year-old visited the Quince Orchard Shell gas station located at 501 Quince Orchard Road in Gaithersburg, which is near his workplace. He went to the Lottery kiosk and bought one of the $10 bingo-themed scratch-offs. A short while later, he discovered that the scratch-off he selected at random was a $100,000 top-prize winner.

“My body started shaking,” the player told Lottery officials, noting that the shock of his win was too much for him. He immediately called his wife and son to share the great news. The Germantown resident has no definite plans for his prize yet other than paying bills and paying off loans on his cars.

The $10 Bingo X10 game went on sale March 20. This the first top prize won out of seven. This game also offers players the chance to win 19 $10,000 prizes along with others ranging from $10 to $1,000. Our winner’s lucky Lottery retailer, Quince Orchard Shell, will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for its role in selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.”

A Gaithersburg man is $100,000 richer after purchasing a winning scratch-off lottery ticket at the Safeway at 20211 Goshen Road in Gaithersburg. Additional details below courtesy of the Maryland Lottery:
“A Montgomery County resident routinely buys scratch-offs and Pick 4 tickets when he goes to the grocery store. That ritual helped him bag a $100,000 prize on a Gold x50 scratch-off. The 66-year-old purchased three of the $10 scratch-offs, but had no luck with the first two instant tickets. Lady Luck stepped in to give him the big win on his third scratch-off. “The last one I scratched was the winner. I guess I saved the best for last,” he said with a grin. The Gaithersburg man won a smaller prize on another scratch-off game in 2021. He said his winning number was “17” in 2021 and the winning number he matched this time was “19”.

The retired transit worker said most of his winnings will help pay off his daughter’s college loans. “The wife and I might split the rest on home improvement projects,” he noted. The lucky grocery store that sold the instant ticket was Safeway #1620 at 20211 Goshen Road in Gaithersburg. The Montgomery County retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off. The lucky player is the seventh $100,000 winner since the game was launched on Jan. 23. Three top prizes are still unclaimed along with four unclaimed $50,000 prizes and others ranging from $10 to $10,000.

The Gold X50 game is a member of a Gold Multiplier family of games and the Gold Multiplier second-chance promotion. Upcoming entry deadlines for the chance to win $50,000 are April 24, May 22 and June 19. Other members of the scratch-off family are the $1 Gold X5, $2 Gold X10 and $5 Gold X20.

A Montgomery County man is $50,000 richer after purchasing a winning Powerball ticket at the 7-Eleven located at 3 Professional Drive in Gaithersburg. Full story below courtesy of the Maryland Lottery:
”A Montgomery County man wasn’t fooling when he phoned his wife at work to urge her to come home early shortly after he discovered his $50,000 April Fools’ Day Powerball win.

His wife was startled and asked if something was wrong and if he was OK. “Just drop everything by 2, at least,” he recalls saying to her. Once she arrived at their Gaithersburg home, the happy Powerball player revealed his third-tier winning ticket.

He had bought the lucky $2 quick-pick ticket at 7-Eleven #32879, located at 3 Professional Drive in Gaithersburg. A Powerball and Mega Millions player, he buys tickets to the national jackpot games when he stops at Lottery retailers to fill his gas tank. He’ll check tickets from past drawings and buy tickets for upcoming ones.

On the day he discovered his big win, he scanned the Powerball ticket using the store ticket checker and couldn’t believe his eyes. “There were people in there so I didn’t want to make noise,” he said, “so I kept it in.”

He gave the ticket to the clerk and she thought he wanted to cash it rather than verify the win. “I think she thought it was $500,” the winner recalled. When she realized the ticket was worth $50,000, the clerk let out a celebratory yell and let him know she couldn’t cash such a large prize. His secret was out! “Everybody in the store knew something had happened.”

The winnings will go to pay bills and boost the couple’s savings account, he said.
Want to join our winner and try your luck with this weekend’s national jackpot games? Tonight’s Mega Millions drawing is for an estimated annuity of $414 million with an estimated cash option of $221 million. The Saturday, April 8Powerball drawing is for an estimated jackpot annuity of $186 million with an estimated cash option of $98.9 million.”

The Montgomery County Council issued the following statement today condemning another instance of hate-based graffiti at Gaithersburg High School:
“We are saddened to hear of another instance of hate-based graffiti found at a Montgomery County Public School (MCPS), and the second instance this past week alone at Gaithersburg High School (GHS). This time race-based.

The Council stands in solidarity with the GHS community and the entire MCPS community in condemning all acts of hate and racism. We are committed to making our schools safe and inclusive spaces for all our students, no matter their race, religion or background.  We stand ready to support MCPS in its ongoing efforts to create a community of care and respect.

We must uphold the values of diversity and inclusivity that make Montgomery County so special and continue to educate our youth about the importance of respecting these values and understanding the harm these hate acts cause. To ensure we are an inclusive community, we all must become actively conscious about racism and take actions to end racial inequities.

The Council expresses its gratitude to MCPS and GHS administrators and staff for their response and prompt communication to GHS families.”

The 40-year-old purchased just one instant ticket last week and scratched her way to the big prize. The restaurant employee said she was out running errands when she stopped in a 7-Eleven in Rockville. The $20 blue scratch-off, $50,000 Cash, caught her eye and she decided to buy one of them. She played the game there in the store.
