The Quince Orchard Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Richard Tyler Jr. as its new Head Varsity Wrestling Coach. Rich Tyler is an accomplished athlete and coach with a distinguished history in high school athletics.
Stephanie Gomer, teacher at Poolesville High School, has been named Maryland History Day High School Teacher of the Year. She will be honored at the Maryland History Day statewide awards ceremony on May 4.
MCPS hosted nearly 1,000 volunteers, lawmakers and county leaders on April 22 for the Resilience, Education, Action, Climate, Habitat (REACH) Hub groundbreaking ceremony and Earth Day volunteer event at A. Mario Loiederman Middle School.
MCPS is hosting this year’s Special Education Family Resource Fair on Saturday, May 11 at Montgomery Blair High School (51 University Blvd. East in Silver Spring). The free event will be held from 10am until 1pm, and is open to MCPS parents, staff and community members.

Defensive End Demeioun “Chop” Robinson, Quince Orchard Class of 2021, was drafted in the 1st round of the NFL draft by the Miami Dolphins (21st overall). Chop helped the Cougars to a State Championship in 2018. He earned All-Met honors in 2019 and was the Maryland Gatorade Player of the year in 2021.

Wootton High School is hosting an Acappella Showcase featuring seven acappella groups from five different schools. The event will take place on May 13th from 6 pm-8 pm at Wootton High School in Rockville.
Dr. Zadia Gadsden, principal at Takoma Park Elementary School, has been named this year’s Washington Post Principal of the Year. The Washington Post announced the winners and finalists of the 2024 Principal and Teacher of the Year Awards on April 23.
