A major new mixed-income, mixed-use development is officially underway in Derwood, as the Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County (HOC) and EYA, LLC held a ceremonial groundbreaking for The Sage, a project that will bring 413 new apartment homes and a new Montgomery County Public Libraries branch just steps from the Shady Grove Metro station.
Montgomery County officials, including County Executive Marc Elrich, joined state and local leaders to announce the completion of a major microgrid project at the David F. Bone Equipment Maintenance and Transit Operation Center in Derwood.
“Coming soon” signage is now up at the future Arby’s location in Derwood, marking the latest step in the restaurant’s return to Montgomery County.

A man has died following a single-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday afternoon in the Derwood area.
Update: The man was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A serious crash in Derwood this afternoon has left one man with life-threatening injuries and prompted a road closure as police investigate.
Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD), 1st District officers and Rockville City Police responded at 8:31pm on Wednesday to the 400 block of Redland Road for a reported stabbing.
