Takoma Park Residents Invited to Participate in Ward Redistricting Meeting

The City of Takoma Park is beginning to redraw the boundaries of the six city council wards.

Redistricting occurs every 10 years after the U.S. Census when district boundaries for federal, state, and local elected offices are redrawn to reflect new and shifting population data. Residents of the city are invited to learn more about the process and participate in two community meetings this fall.

To learn more, visit the redistricting webpage to view comments, surveys, and a portal section for drawing maps.

The meetings will be streamed to YouTube and recorded for viewing later.

During and after each meeting, residents can provide comments either in-person, by email, or through a survey available online or pick up a copy at one of our facilities. The City Council will meet in November and January to review the draft and final ward boundary maps. Videos of all meetings will be available online for the public to view at their convenience.

Takoma Park encourages residents to participate in the process by drawing their communities online to help identify neighborhoods and drawing their district boundaries online using an interactive mapping tool.

To learn more about the redistricting process and ways to get involved, including a complete schedule of meetings, visit the Takoma Park Redistricting Project Page.
