During Wednesday’s COVID-19 media briefing, Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Dr. Earl Stoddard said that the county has drafted language for a “vaccine passport” that is currently being reviewed and will then be provided to the County Council for their consideration. The County Council, acting as the Board of Health, will have to approve the regulation.
The proposed language includes restaurants, movie theaters, entertainment venues, and gyms.
Marc Elrich said he hopes to have the legislation to the council when they return on January 11 from recess.
Stoddard said that they are paying attention to DC’s passport and reviewing their model. He said the county will be addressing concerns and questions raised from local businesses in the proposed legislation.
He noted that the county is paying attention to case totals and are monitoring hospitalizations, as well as the burden COVID has had on county operations, such as among staff at correctional facilities and in MCFRS, so they can to continue to provide services that the county residents rely on.
