The Real Story Behind the “Red Hogs” Tweets Regarding the New Washington Football Team Name

Yesterday a tweet from longtime MoCo screen printing and embroidery company, Sports Extra, gained traction when they displayed burgundy and gold apparel with the name “Red Hogs” on it.

A tweet from earlier this morning is making the rounds on Washington Football Team Twitter  showing the same design at Sports Nation in Montgomery Mall.

It turns out, it was just the folks over at Sports Extra having a little fun with a few leftover burgundy shirts they had.

Earlier this afternoon we spoke with a representative from Sports Extra who told us they were big fans of the Washington Football Team and wanted to get in on the run by printing one of the logos people had been discussing as a possibility for the Washington Football Team’s new name.

Yesterday they decided to get the tweet showing the “shipment of Red Hogs gear that had just arrived via UPS” by tagging a few local Washington Football Team reporters and radio personalities. The tweet took off has been shared by over 200 people, most with their own opinion on the situation.

They decided to keep the joke going by hanging one of their Red Hogs jerseys up at Montgomery Mall’s Sports Nation and taking a picture of it, which led us to calling the store and eventually Sports Extra to get to the bottom of it.

It turns out it was just a little joke to keep the excitement going and get it on the fun.

The Washington Football Team will be announcing the new team name on The Today Show on Wednesday, February 2nd.
