Children’s Event: Free Youth Ball Hockey Skills Clinics

Two free ball hockey skills clinics will be taking place this Saturday, March 12th and Saturday, March 26th for children ages 4-13.

The clinic for children ages 4-7 will take place at 2pm and at 4pm for children 8-13.

Per the DCHL leagues:

Ice hockey has the high entry boundary that each player must be competent ice skater. Ball hockey allows young children to learn the fundamentals without the added challenge of learning to stop and go on ice skates.

Ball Hockey is fast and fun for kids needing fitness, hand eye coordination, and allows them to learn about teamwork.

“The goal is to play for fun and while we aim for strengthening skills and do keep score in league play, the focus is on having fun while exercising.” says Melanie Makstein who is spreading the word about the free clinics.

“Our generation had plenty of empty parking lots to dabble in street hockey, but that has become a rare gem as well. Playing ball hockey allows this generation to feel the rush of a fun street hockey games without the inevitable break for ‘car!’”

The Washington Capitals have sponsored the DCHL league program to help kids learn the game. Kids need not have any experience as the free clinic is geared to support all skill levels.

“We hope to spread the love of the ultimate sport to the kids of the DMV.”

Clinics are held in Rockville, at the Michael & Son Sports Arena.
