Today in District Court, defendant James Ryan, 48, of Clarksburg, was ordered held without bond, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Ryan was arrested yesterday and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death his of 25-year-old girlfriend, Sarah Harris.
According to MCPD, Ryan had been providing controlled substances, including Propofol, Ketamine, Diazepam, and midazolam, to Harris.
Harris died from a drug overdose on January 26.
In addition to second-degree murder, Ryan’s charges also include reckless endangerment and possession of a controlled or dangerous substance with the intent to sell or distribute.
Ryan is an oral surgeon who owns a practice on Observation Drive in Germantown. If convicted of all charges, Ryan could face 78 years in prison.
A preliminary hearing is set for April 15th at 8:30 a.m.
On Tuesday evening, Montgomery County Police Chief Marcus Jones and State’s Attorney John McCarthy held a news conference to discuss Ryan’s arrest.
