A Gaithersburg man was arrested and on June 1 and charged with multiple handgun offenses after an incident in Frederick that occurred on May 3. Details per the Frederick Police Department below:
On May 3, 2022, around 2:32 PM, officers from the Frederick Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to the area of the 1000 Block of Heather Ridge Drive for a reported firearm discharge. While officers responded, additional 911 calls were received about a vehicle crash in the area of Taney Avenue and Young place. Investigators located evidence at both locations connecting the incidents. No one was struck by the gunfire.
Through evidence and information obtained, officers positively identified Bennie Darnell Hampton, Jr. as the suspect. An application for charges was filed against Hampton on May 4, 2022, and an arrest warrant was issued. Hampton was apprehended with the assistance of the United States Marshals Service on June 1 in Gaithersburg. Hampton was charged with multiple handgun offenses, including being a felon in possession of a handgun, reckless endangerment, and having a loaded handgun on his person.
