A person who was doing yard work in their backyard unearthed what appeared to be a grenade at approximately 5:30 pm on Wednesday evening on the 5300 block of Worthington Drive in Bethesda on Wednesday evening, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Serviced (MCFRS) Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer.
MCFRS Fire/Explosive Investigator and Police Patrol Officers arrived on the scene to investigate and determined that the device was inert (non-explosive). In related tweets, Piringer expressed the importance of calling 911 and reporting suspicious or unusual activity to local law enforcement: “Whether you are on your way to work, walking in your
neighborhood, or out and about in your community, remember: We all play a role in keeping our communities safe. Remember to stay vigilant and say somethingwhen you see signs of suspicious activity.”
