The Intercounty Connector (ICC)/MD-200 is closed in both directions between Exit 3/Shady Grove Road and Exit 8 MD-97/Georgia Avenue for a Police Investigation after a collision that occurred around 7:30pm on Thursday night.
According to MCPD:
At approximately 7:28 p.m., an on-duty Montgomery County Police Officer was driving westbound on the ICC in his marked patrol car, when his cruiser was hit from behind by a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed.
The driver was ejected from his motorcycle and pronounced dead on scene. The Montgomery County Police Officer was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is on scene and investigating the collision. The ICC is shut down in both directions between Georgia Ave and Shady Grove Rd for an extended period of time during this investigation.
According to a report by WUSA9, the traffic from the incident “led to chaos as drivers began traveling in any direction they could to escape.”
