Coming Soon to Cabin John Village; Seafood, Pizza, Subs, Sushi, and More

Cabin John Village, formerly known as the Cabin John shopping center and mall, is  named for the adjacent creek and regional park. It has been a pillar of the Potomac community since 1967 and was acquired by EDENS in 2016. Per EDENS: “EDENS has transformed the traditional shopping center experience into a welcoming communal environment that naturally fosters meaningful social interaction. Complementary retail options include a curated mix of home goods, dining, health and wellness and more outdoor greenspace welcomes the opportunity for community events.” Below you’ll see a list of some of the places coming soon to the shopping center:

Augie’s: Augie’s Mussel House and Beer Garden is coming to 7747 Tuckerman Ln (Cabin John Village), the former site of Lahinch Tavern. Augie’s currently has a location at 1106 King Street in Alexandria, VA. In addition to mussels, menu items include a 10-Day Cured & Smoked Brisket Sandwich, Chicken Pot Pie Empanada, Chicken & Waffles,  and Soft Shell Crab.  Opening information has not been announced.

According to their website, “Inspired by St. Augustine, the Patron Saint of Brewers, Augie’s Mussel House and Beer Garden in historic Old Town, Alexandria blends traditional Belgium cuisine with a modern twist. Our creative mussel offerings can be thoughtfully paired with one of our extensive Ale selections. Whether you are sampling one of our many brews on the festive patio, or enjoying a waffle and frites in our bespoke dining room, Augie’s has you covered!  We locally source the freshest and best ingredients to create our culinary offerings and our in-house beer Cicerones seek out both traditional and innovative brewers to provide a vast selection. The team at Augie’s is ready to take you on a culinary journey.”

Kema by Kenaki: Last summer we let you know that the folks who brought you Kenaki Sushi to the Kentlands neighborhood of Gaithersburg and Aki to The Roost food hall at Capitol Hill would be bringing Kema by Kenaki to Cabin Village in Potomac. Initially the hope was for a late winter/early spring 2022 opening, but we spoke with sibling founders Ken and Aki Ballogdajan, who told us that some additional work was needed on the space and that it won’t be delivered until later this spring. The most recent update was that the restaurant was hoping to open by the end of this year. We’ll have updates soon on the progress.

The almost 2,000 square foot restaurant will be very similar to what Kenaki in Kentlands offers, but will be more “fast paced,” in what will be a hybrid between Kenaki and Aki. Kenaki is a full-service restaurant while Aki is a sushi counter at a food hall. Kema will offer signature rolls from Kenaki/Aki such as the Black Magic roll- made with “forbidden rice”, spicy tuna, pickled jalapenos, and truffle oil, the Donkey Kong roll- made with eel, fried plantain, cream cheese, cucumber, tempura flakes, togarashi spice mayo, and sweet shoyu, among others.

Capo Italian Deli: The deli will be opening a new location in Cabin John Village in the storefront that was previously home to Goldberg’s New York Bagels. The Italian delicatessen was previously available for carryout and delivery in Montgomery County out of sister restaurant Brickside Food & Drink (4866 Cordell Ave) in Bethesda. The deli’s first location opened at 715 Florida Ave in NW, DC.  Using a a prohibition style speakeasy gimmick, the deli their old school Italian deli as a “front” to it’s back bar. Capo gained attention in the area in the summer of 2020 for their popular “Fauci Pouchy” carryout cocktails. The deli has since opened a Western Market location and has a Tyson’s Corner location coming soon. The menu includes Italian classics like Chicken Parmigiano, Hot Italian Beef, Prosciutto & Provolone, and more.

Colony Grill:  The popular Connecticut Pizza restaurant offering “bar pies”, is expanding into Maryland with its upcoming location at Cabin John Village in Potomac. Just under two years ago, the New England-style hot oil bar pizza spot opened a nearby location in Arlington (2800 Clarendon Blvd). We are told the menu is simple- Drinks on one side and pizza/toppings on the other. Pizzas range from $10.50 to $13.50, according to the Arlington location’s menu.

The Daily meal, a national food and drinks website, named Colony Grill one of ‘America’s 56 Greatest Old-School Pizzerias’. The pizza is described as a one-of-a-kind, thin-crust pizza that is best served with the signature “hot oil” topping (made with Serrano peppers). Additional toppings for the personal-sized pizzas include pepperoni, sausage, “stingers”, sweet peppers, mushrooms, meatballs, onions, anchovies, bacon, black olives, and cherry peppers.

Ever/Body: Ever/Body is a woman-led beauty and wellness company that recently announced $55.5 million in series C funding earlier this summer. It is opening it’s first Maryland location in Potomac’s Cabin John Village in the space that was home to Pet Valu. Ever/Body announced plans to expand into new markets, starting with the opening of six locations across the East Coast by the end of 2022. In addition to its three existing NYC locations, Ever/Body will open three new locations in the greater New York City area, and three in the DC Metro area (Logan Circle in D.C. and Arlington in addition to Cabin John Village). Plans for further nationwide expansion are on the horizon in the near future. We don’t have an expected opening date, but we were told last month that construction on the location will begin in the near future.

Recently Open: The Pretzel Bakery opened in April. Authentic French bakery, Boulangerie Christophe, opened in May. Stretch Zone opened in July. The Scoop ice cream shop opened in August.
