Film
Are you shivering with anticipation? We are screening “Rocky Horror Picture Show(opens in a new tab)” this Friday, October 7, 6 pm, at Northwest Branch Recreational Park. Free admission and free prop bags to first 100 participants. Costumes encouraged. Recommended for mature audiences seventeen and older. Carpooling encouraged. Park Police will be onsite for traffic control. Neighbors encouraged to walk to event.
Trains
The kids can dress up this weekend for rides on our Halloween Eye Spy Trains(opens in a new tab). Take a trip to Train-sylvania and search for hidden characters on your journey. Trains run at Cabin John Train and Wheaton Train and Carousel Saturday, October 8, and Sunday, October 9, 11 am to 6 pm. Tickets available onsite and in advance.
History
Lots happening at Montgomery Parks’ historic sites on Saturday, October 8! Get crafty at Oakley Cabin African American Museum and Park at 10 am at the Beginners Basket Making Workshop(opens in a new tab). Registration required.
Oakley Cabin also offers free tours(opens in a new tab) of this historic home on Saturday, October 8, 12 pm to 4 pm. Drop-in and learn about Montgomery County history.
Take an evening guide tour of the Underground Railroad Experience Trail at 6:30 pm during Twilight Trek(opens in a new tab) at Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park. Reserve your space online.
Literature
Bring the kids to Brookside Gardens’ Drag Queen Story Time(opens in a new tab) on Saturday, October 8, at 11 am. The free outdoor program includes stories, songs, and games with presenter D’manda Martini.
Nature
On Sunday, October 9, connect with nature on the water and celebrate six decades of one of our nature centers. Paddle with Black Hill Nature Programs staff to explore Little Seneca Lake by kayak(opens in a new tab) at 4:30 pm. Must have basic paddling experience. Advance registration necessary.
Finally, you are invited to Brookside Nature Center(opens in a new tab)’s sixtieth birthday celebration on Sunday, October 9, 1 pm to 7 pm, with free cake, s’mores, and activities! Consider carpooling as parking is limited.
