Things To Do in Montgomery Parks This Weekend: October 14-16

Jazz concert, hikes, campfire, bird watching, and more! Lots of weekend events around parks to enjoy and to volunteer for!

Music

Start your Sunday mornings with our free jazz concert at Cabin John Regional Park Amphitheater. Sunday Serenade(opens in a new tab) on October 16, 10 am to 11:30 am, features the New Orchestra of Washington. Breakfast foods and coffee for purchase.

And, we have more music this weekend during Acoustics and Ales(opens in a new tab). Vinyl Tap performs Saturday, October 15, 11 am to 2 pm, at North Four Corners Local Park in Silver Spring. Free admission! Food and drink vendors onsite.

Wellness

Brookside Gardens offers Yoga Sprouts(opens in a new tab) for families with children ages three to seven on Saturday, October 15, 10:30 am. The program promotes mindfulness, connection, and movement in the beautiful outdoor setting of the gardens. Registration required.

Animals

Crows are crafty and highly intelligent. Learn about the bird with the kids during Brookside Nature Center’s Wild Neighbors Campfire(opens in a new tab) on Saturday, October 15, 10:30 am. Bring your own s’mores supplies. Please sign up.

Search for animals during a unique scavenger hunt. Stop by Maydale Nature Classroom on Sunday, October 16, 2 pm to 4 pm, to pick up your list of clues for the Spooky Skull Hike(opens in a new tab). Then, head out to try to find the skulls and identify the creatures. Program requires registration.

Adults, take up the hobby of birdwatching. Find out the basics at Locust Grove Nature Center’s Morning Tweets and Tea(opens in a new tab) on Friday, October 14, at 9 am. All participants must register.

Volunteer

Finally, we have opportunities to give back and participate in a number of volunteer events this weekend. You can help remove invasive plants during four Weed Warrior(opens in a new tab) workdays at various parks or maintain trails(opens in a new tab) at Fairland Recreational Park.
