Satsuma, a Japanese restaurant offering sushi, ramen, smokeless bbq and other dishes, has closed permanently at 8003 Norfolk Ave in Bethesda. The restaurant has been dark for a few weeks, according to readers, and it is now listed as “permanently closed” on Google, with the phone number no longer operating.
Satsuma opened in late 2008 and was noted as being Bethesda’s first yakiniku (Japanese barbecue) restaurant with built-in grills at each table. Offerings included cut-short rib, chuck rib, skirt or tongue and diners were able to prepare it themselves. Satsuma also offered an extensive sushi and sashimi menu as well as cooked dishes. There is no word on a possible replacement at this time.
