Schedule and Education Sessions Announced for 10th Annual Montgomery County Energy Summit That Will Be Held March 28-29 in Silver Spring

Per Montgomery County: The schedule and education sessions for the 10th Annual Montgomery County Energy Summit were announced this week, with focus on preparing the commercial building community for compliance with energy benchmarking, building energy performance standards and emerging building codes. The summit will take place in-person on March 28 and 29 at the Silver Spring Civic Building. It will offer hands-on learning opportunities and actionable case studies from commercial and multifamily buildings. The Silver Spring Civic Building is located at 1 Veterans Plaza in Silver Spring. Registration check-in will open at 8 a.m. on both days of the summit.

On March 28, the sessions are designed for building owners, managers and facilities staff. Attendees will cycle through five stations to learn about energy benchmarking and performance requirements for commercial buildings. The sessions will address resources available to assist in improving building performance, including receiving utility incentives, financing building upgrades, securing building permits and installing electric vehicle charging stations.

During the first day of the summit, attendees will have the opportunity to speak one-on-one, ask questions and receive hands-on support from subject matter experts. Energy audit demos will take place throughout the day to help attendees consider no-and low-cost energy-saving opportunities in their buildings.

​On March 29, the sessions will be geared toward building and energy professionals and consultants. Building owners, managers and facilities staff also are invited to attend for a more in-depth discussion about County energy regulations and strategies.

The second day of the Energy Summit will feature a morning plenary session with a panel discussion about the local landscape of building energy and climate policies. The panel discussion will be followed by learning sessions on strategies and case studies from commercial and multifamily buildings with an eye toward improving energy efficiency in buildings.

Wednesday’s education sessions will conclude with a closing plenary panel titled, “Putting the Pieces Together, the Carrots of Compliance​.”

A networking event and reception will follow the closing plenary from 4:30-6 p.m.

​Both days of the Energy Summit will also feature an Innovation Alley, where exhibitors will display innovative products and services available to the commercial and multifamily building sector. The exhibits will include information on aid in building energy efficiency, renewable energy, electrification, building decarbonization, healthy buildings and zero-emission vehicles.
