A Montgomery Village man is $50,000 richer after purchasing a winning Powerball ticket at the Safeway located at 20211 Goshen Road in Gaithersburg. According to the Maryland Lottery, a $100,000 winning Gold x50 scratch-off and a $50,000 winning Million Dollar Mega Multiplier scratch-off were also sold this month at the Goshen Safeway. A Montgomery Village man thought his eyes were playing tricks on him as he scanned his Powerball ticket and learned he had won $50,000. He stopped by Lottery headquarters with his wife to share his story.
“I had to check it twice. I had to make sure it was true,” he said.
“We were so close. Just one number away from $235 million,” his wife said.
According to the Montgomery County resident, he buys a Powerball ticket or two when he goes into the gas station or the grocery store. He bought this winning ticket at Safeway #1620 at 20211 Goshen Road in Gaithersburg.
“When I go to the store and get some change back, I will use that cash to purchase some tickets,” he explained. The 57-year-old added that he doesn’t have a favorite or repeated number as he purchases his tickets through the Quick Pick option.The biologist said he plans is to invest the money, but with a child in high school, he said that money may get diverted into paying for college in the future.
