Montgomery Parks July Special Events and Programs

WHEATON, Md. — July is Park and Recreation Month so celebrate with Montgomery Parks by taking in a Parks Playhouse or Playhouse Junior performance, a Shakespeare performance, a baseball game, Independence Day fireworks, or just enjoy nature. July events in Montgomery Parks include: 

 Parks Playhouse | July 6, 7, 12, 18, 23, 27 | Various times and locations: Parks Playhouse is a summer series of free, live performances to celebrate the artistry of local bands, troupes and groups.

Shakespeare in the Parks: The Tempest | July 8, 9, 12 | Various times and locations: Complete with magic, faeries and physical storytelling, this fast-paced, 90-minute outdoor adventure set in the 1980s is perfect for the whole family. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnics. All ages. Free.

Strong & Fit (55+) | July 11–August 15 | 9-10 a.m.: Wheaton Regional Park, 2000 Shorefield Road, Wheaton

Join us as we partner with “Age Well Senior Fitness” to explore beautiful open spaces, trails and outdoor fitness equipment to improve participant’s balance, muscular strength and flexibility while enjoying the benefits of exercising in a natural environment. Registration required. Free.

Parks Playhouse Junior | July 13‒15, 17‒19, 24‒26 | Various times and locations: Looking for something to do this summer with the little ones? Bring them out to Parks Playhouse Junior for an hour of fun and entertainment they will love. Free.

Never Grow Up: Social for 55+ | July 19 | 10–11:30 a.m.
Johnsons Local Park, 18000 Washington Grove Lane, Gaithersburg: Come out and play at Montgomery Parks! Spend time outdoors sipping coffee or tea, playing games, sharing stories and laughs with friends old and new. This session you’ll learn the benefits of herbs and tips to successfully grow them at home. You’ll be able to create herb infused oils and take home a starter herb garden of your own. This project will be led by Montgomery Parks Community Gardens staff.  Registration required. Free.

Foodie Fridays: The Bee’s Knees | July 28 | 6:30 –8:30 p.m.
Josiah Henson Museum and Park, 11410 Old Georgetown Road, North Bethesda: This edition features Phil Frank, a member of the Montgomery County Beekeepers Association, who will discuss the important role of honeybees in food production and what it is morphologically and behaviorally that makes bee pollination irreplaceable. Ages 21 and older. Registration required. $10.
