The Salt Line Opens in Bethesda on Tuesday, July 11th

Back in September 2021 we let you know the popular DC restaurant The Salt Line would be making its way over to Bethesda Row, taking over the location at 4900 Hampden Lane that was previously home to Greek restaurant Kapnos until 2018. After a soft opening over the weekend, The Salt Line will hold its grand opening on Tuesday, July 11th.

According to the restaurant, the opening menu at features a selection of beloved New England favorites also found at The Salt Line’s Navy Yard and Ballston locations, as well as additions from Executive Chef Eric McKamey and Long Shot Hospitality Chef/Partner Kyle Bailey. Highlights include the Local Heirloom Tomato Salad, Bucatini and Clams, Maine Peekytoe Crab Roll, and more. In addition to full beer and wine lists, the cocktail program is heavily influenced by the New England lifestyle and showcases imaginative twists on timeless classics such as the Cape Codder G&T, The Blue Cheese Martini, Sbagliato Spritz, and more. The interior evokes a nautical feel, with mahogany paneling, brass fixtures, booths inspired by yacht seats, a huge u-shaped bar, and vintage coastal ephemera throughout.

The Salt Line Bethesda is open for dinner service daily starting at 4 pm, with extended late-night hours until midnight Sunday through Thursday and 1 am on Friday and Saturday. Lunch and brunch service will launch at a later date. Reservations are encouraged and can be made directly on The Salt Line’s website.

The original Salt Line DC location opened near Navy Yard in June of 2017 with a 100-seat patio bar overlooking the Anacostia River and has been a hit and pre/post Nats game destination due to its proximity to Nats stadium, sizable bar, and blend of popular food and drink with views of the river. Per The Salt Line website: “At The Salt Line, we’re taking inspiration from that magical blend and creating a lively and welcoming experience of classic New England dishes influenced by the bounty of the Chesapeake. Each day The Salt Line features a rotating selection of local Chesapeake and New England oysters. When available, you can find ‘Cthulhu Deeps’, The Salt Line proprietary oyster, on the menu. Hailing from Otter Cove farm on the Damariscatta River in Maine, Cthulhu Deeps are the perfect balance of crisp, briny, and salty with moderate flavor and texture.”

The Riggsby was originally expected to open in the space in spring/summer 2020 and would’ve been adjacent to fellow Schlow restaurant group fast-casual spot, Prima, which opened in May 2019 ended up never reopening after the Covid closures in March 2020 and plans for The Riggsby fell through. Chiko took Prima’s place in 2021. Featured photo shows The Salt Line DC location, courtesy of The Salt Line.

The news of The Salt Line’s opening date was first reported by Robert Dyer.
