The city of Rockville’s contractor is planning final pavement markings on North Washington Street and East Middle Lane in early August.
As early as the week of Aug. 7, new traffic patterns are expected on North Washington Street and East Middle Lane as the city’s contractor reallocates the existing motor vehicle travel lanes to create bike lanes. The two existing motor vehicle travel lanes will be reduced to one lane in each direction. New bike lanes and new on-street parking spaces will be added. The work is expected to last one to two weeks, depending on the weather.
After the pavement marking work is complete, the contractor will install precast concrete curbs for bike lanes, meter poles and signs. The Town Center Road Diets project is designed to add pedestrian and bicycle facilities along N. Washington Street between MD 355 (Hungerford Drive) and MD 28 (Jefferson Street) as well as along E. Middle Lane between N. Washington Street and MD 355 (Hungerford Drive). This project will add new protected bicycle lanes and bike boxes along N. Washington Street and a widened sidewalk along E. Middle Lane among other improvementsFor more information, including the approved construction plans, visit www.rockvillemd.gov/visionzeroprojects.
