Deceased Woman Found in Truck After Slow Speed Pursuit in Frederick County Early Sunday Morning; Driver Detained

At approximately 1:31 a.m., today, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Costco Distribution Center, 5236 Intercostal Drive, in Monrovia, Maryland, for a welfare check. The initial call was a truck driver seemed under the influence and had broken out the window of their own tractor.

Per the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office: “Upon arrival, FCSO deputies contacted the suspect, an adult male, who was in the driver’s seat of his tractor with it running at the entrance to the Costco Depot. The male was argumentative and did not want to speak to deputies.

It was determined that he was under the influence and to keep the community safe, deputies placed spike stop strips in the front and back of the tractor. The driver attempted to flee, striking the stop sticks and went on a slow speed pursuit inside the secure area of the Costco Distribution lot. He came to a stop at the exit lane of Costco where he still refused to get out. Deputies attempted verbal communication and de-escalation, with no resolution.

The driver continued to be confrontational, and deputies deployed OC spray through his open window. He still refused to exit the vehicle and deputies broke a window and a deputy entered the cab, deployed their taser, and successfully detained him. While in the cab deputies observed an unknown deceased adult female victim on the floorboard of the vehicle.

Out of respect for the family and until deputies make full next of kin notifications, the FCSO will not release the name and identifying information of the victim. FCSO detectives are currently conducting a thorough investigation and at this point, the suspect is currently at Frederick Health Hospital undergoing medical evaluation. We will continue to update this information as it becomes available.
